Penélope Cruz made quite an entrance at Chanel’s autumn/winter 2024 show on Tuesday, with a brand new haircut. Tapping in to this decade’s hottest hairstyle, Cruz’s razor-sharp bob was chopped to sit about an inch below her jawline, and subsequently framed her face in all the right ways.
While the star is usually synonymous with effortless texture and a lived-in look when it comes to her hair, she threw caution to the wind this season and tried a poker-straight finish and luxurious glassy shine. Also notable was the colour: Cruz has long had caramel and latte tones woven through her hair, but the new blunt cut felt lighter, brighter and more honey blonde in hue.
Created by celebrity colourist Matt Rez, honeyed ribbon highlights like these are very popular right now – just see Rihanna, who also recently swapped her raven colour for a similar tone.
Cruz, who is 49, has done more experimenting with her hair lately than she has in years. There was a baroque bob for the Goya Awards; a bouncy midi-chop at the Governors Awards; and just before that, a tousled lob. The actor understands the power of a good cut and colour to add luminosity to the skin, and freshen up a look for the red carpet and beyond.
Proof that playing with different hair looks doesn’t have to grind to a halt as you approach 50, Cruz has never looked better.
