Most of the time being famous sounds kind of tiring, don’t you think? Whether it’s Mark Wahlberg, who rises at 2.30am in order to tick all of the exercise and food routines off his (insane) to-do list, or Jennifer Aniston, whose purported 4.30am alarm call means she can get her meditation practice in, few celebrities seem to allow themselves the simple pleasure of a lie in.
@stormzy My first proper tiktok! I’ve been proper enjoying all the lovely content on this app so thought it’d be nice to get involved too instead of just reposting everyone 🤣i hope you guys enjoy it, lemme know what you think! Love ❤️❤️
Even if you’re someone who enjoys a morning ritual (like Gwyneth Paltrow, who makes time for oil pulling and transcendental meditation even midweek), rising before dawn in order to embark on a borderline military routine sounds positively exhausting. But A-listers are successful for a reason, as Stormzy just proved in a new “Get Ready With Me” video – “my first proper TikTok!”, as he put it. As it turns out, 24 hours in the life of this national treasure incorporates a lot of exercise, a soupçon of work, and optimal amounts of play.
It starts, as all good things do, in a fuzzy dressing gown. At an acceptable 6.15am, Stormzy ventures out for a jog in his local park. So far, so “one of us”. That is until he hops into a yellow sports car to drive to the gym for 7.36am, where he performs treadmill sprints – 15 at different tempos. At 8am, it’s time for a padel lesson – yes, Stormzy is a padel devotee. “I’ve been playing padel with the mandem and I’m the deadest and want to get better, so I do this for an hour,” he explains.
After that, he meets with his nutritionist to ensure he’s in shape for his forthcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand, and then his personal trainer to do a strength and conditioning workout, including “squats for my little skinny legs”.
At 11.30am, Stormzy finally eats breakfast: a chicken and sausage omelette with sweet potato whipped up by his chef, Vic. After a 45-minute dog walk, it’s time for a siesta at 1.13pm. A 20-minute power nap does wonders for focus, mood and energy levels, which might be one reason why Stormzy is a bestselling artist – he prioritises sleep.
At 4.30pm, while the rest of the world is counting the seconds until home time, the rapper arrives at the studio to start work. Stormzy explains that he’s in the studio for just a couple of hours, doing some writing and finishing a verse, and also – why not? – fitting in yet another, more cardio-led workout while he’s there.
After that, it’s physio for lower back problems he’s had since turning 30, a chicken caesar salad and a 9.30pm game of padel with his mates, Chunkz and Sharky. He beats them, of course, acknowledging that they have no idea he’s already trained with a private coach today. “I’ve been a spartan today, this is just the cherry on top.”
A pair of compression boots (to stimulate lymphatic drainage and help with muscle recovery) and one episode of Love Island later, and Stormzy is finally ready for bed. The man certainly puts in a shift in in the wellbeing department. Championing exercise, recovery and great nutrition, he is more than au fait with what it takes to feel and look good. It seems that, in addition to being an acclaimed artist, philanthropist and publishing trailblazer, he has the makings of a fitness guru, too.
