Between awards season and fashion week, the past month has been a veritable banquet of experimental beauty looks. That said, there was something about actor Sophie Turner’s show stopping look yesterday at Louis Vuitton’s autumn/winter 2024 show that still managed to feel fresh and surprising. Although Turner usually doesn’t shy away from a little drama in the make-up stakes, the traditionally night-time combination of deep plum lips, heavily kohled eyes and rust-coloured shadow layered over her lids was nothing short of mesmerising. Although the tones used were lighter and less obviously gothic, with her long hair (waved to perfection by hair stylist Christian Wood) and elegant, angular features the whole thing felt more than a little Morticia Addams. In the best possible way.
To recreate Turner’s virtuous, daytime take on vamp, follow make-up artist Brooke Turnbull's lead and stick to tonal shades and play with textures. In this case a considered palette of elegant rust and raspberry help to create a striking contrast to her pale skin, while the juxtaposition of the flat, matte eyeshadow provides the perfect contrast to the satin finish of her lipstick, helping it to feel modern. Try Il Makiage’s Color Boss Master Eyeshadow Palette for a similar selection of shades. While she sported the merest hint of a deep pink blush, Turner for the most part left the rest of her skin as milky as Morticia’s own cool and creamy complexion. Pale and most definitely interesting.
