Barbie-core may be the moment, but Ryan Gosling has been putting in work to represent an aligned, though perhaps even campier camp: Ken-core. For Wednesday’s Barbie movie press call in Canada, Gosling reached his aesthetic zenith: his styling, suiting and chunky highlights completed his metamorphosis from actor to beloved man-doll.
To further punctuate his pink and blue Gucci suiting, Gosling’s recently highlighted hair was coiffed to mimic the doll’s mane shape (parted at one side and swooped off the forehead). Really, though, it was Gosling’s multi-tonal, sun-kissed hair that was the ideal choice for an iconic figurine making his way through the summer season and its many warm-weather activities. (Ken is nothing if not a proponent of activities.)
“’90s supermodel hair in the men’s and women’s world has been really exciting to see come alive — big pops of blonde and contrasting colours,” says hairstylist Danny Moon, the artist behind Gosling’s fresh-out-of-the-box highlights. It’s safe to say that Gosling has reached peak Ken.
