Will the bob become as synonymous with the 2020s as, say, the perm was with the ’80s, or the pixie crop with the ’90s? Hairstylists are certainly having a good stab at making this happen, with myriad iterations of the style becoming wildly popular in the last few years. We had the French bob, the “little” bob, and an array of other quirkily-named versions. And they’re still not going anywhere.
Just when we thought that the style was due to run out of steam, a number of A-listers walked the red carpet sporting stellar new bobs. Take Scarlett Johansson, whose summer-ready blunt lob is as versatile as it gets – it can be easily dressed up for red-carpet polish, or worn beachy and textured day to day. Hailey Bieber also hit London with a new chin-grazing cut when she flew in to launch her beauty brand in the UK.
Cara Delevingne is another new bob convert, having chopped off her lengths during the last month. At an event in New York on Wednesday, the model-turned-actor stepped out with a new, directional take on the style. Falling just shy of her shoulders, Cara’s blunt-cut bob featured a choppy fringe, which did a good job of drawing attention to the model’s famous eyebrows. It was a flattering lesson in adding shorter detail around the face for a show-stopping effect. Delevingne looked cool, and she knew it.
Which brings us on to Emma Stone, who also recently swapped her signature mid-length style for an enviable girl-next-door bob. The actor attended the Louis Vuitton Cruise 2024 show in Italy on Wednesday with the new style, which looked every bit as effortless as her chic crochet two-piece. With longer, curtain-style bangs to add interest to her shiny, auburn cut, it left us wondering why Emma hadn’t taken the plunge sooner. It’s a resounding yes from us.
